New purpose-made brass bar tops have been fitted by
R & S Tonks to one of Central Manchester’s most prestigious bars.
Browns Bar & Brasserie was formerly the Athenaeum, one of Manchester’s most famous pubs, but originally Parrs Bank, one of the city’s former opulent banking halls. The building was designed by Charles Heathcote in 1902, and is a superb example of Edwardian baroque with some increasingly fashionable art nouveau detailing.
The old brass bar tops (pictured) had been badly damaged over the years by a combination of water and beer spillages and two new sections have now been fitted, made from the highest quality brass by a leading Huddersfield-based architectural metalwork specialist.
